Take the $10 challenge: pay it forward

I first heard the phrase paying it forward from a former supervisor who I admired very much. She was always on the lookout for ways she could pay it forward and she wanted us to as well. I’m not a TV or movie watcher so had no idea about her frame of references. Look at this YouTube Pay it Forward video clip

It was based on a book written in 2000 by Catherine Ryan Hyde. There’s even a Pay it Forward Foundation and a Pay it Forward Movement.

And here’s more than you wanted to know from Wikipedia including contract law notes and others who did some thinking about paying it forward way before any of these modern folks.

I am blessed to have worked with folks that regularily DO pay it forward types of things and GIVE in a pay it forward kind of way. It comes naturally. Most of them do this stuff without recognition. But more need to rise to the challenge because frankly, there isn’t a lack of people who could use a pay it forward, or the favor of a favor. Having been on the receiving end a couple of times, I can tell you the blessing has impact. Truly.
In looking for clips and references I found this group: SeedaNeed It’s more a DO something forward and then track it here Seedaneed.com. Seems like a good thing and I like the seed/sprout logo.

And now those of us who blog and spend time on Twitter and Facebook have a pay it forward kind of challenge from blogger Billy Coffey …to take The $10 Challenge…and that’s just the starting point! It’s up to you whether you manage the challenge from your keyboard (entirely possible) or get up out of your chair and go out into the world, with cash or an action. No matter what the inspiration, or the reason, please consider taking the challenge. And then repeat it often enough it becomes a habit, and just the way you naturally live!

Well said, Robin! So glad you're aboard. The act of giving is such a magical thing–it blesses the giver even more than the one who receives it.

  2. Robin Arnold says:

Thanks Billy. Really, it's an honor.
