Giving trends: desires of the heart

It’s that time of year. Ads and stores everywhere tell us what we might like or need to give…or ask for on our wish lists. Yet this year I noticed a change, probably a result of most everyone on the planet living a tighter more sensible, economical, smaller carbon footprint lifestyle. I just don’t think folks want as much.

In fact, I asked my family in our weekly e-mail chat a couple of weeks ago just what they had on their wish lists. Not a one sent a return message. Not a peep. From anyone. Not a teen or a grandpa e-mailed a list of anything they wished/hoped for as a gift. Nope. Not a tada list, not a weblink, not a hint of anything from anyone. No kidding.

What’s up with that?

I think folks are not just worn out giving gifts, they are worn out getting gifts.

All the more reason to put $ where it will do some good. Tell me, where do you think money does good?

And, would you be happy with a gift given in your name to such a place?

Wouldn’t that be the real heart of the season?!
